Salsa Museum in Cali Colombia
The Jairo Varela Museum, located on the second floor of the plaza that bears his name in downtown Cali, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of salsa music and the legacy of maestro Jairo Varela, founder of the iconic Grupo Niche.
Inaugurated on December 9, 2014, the museum houses a collection of Varela’s personal items, including musical instruments, sheet music, stage outfits, and photographs. It also features contributions from other salsa legends, such as a dress and wig worn by Celia Cruz.
In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum offers cultural activities like salsa dance classes for children and adults on Saturdays, and special programs during Cali’s famous Feria, such as “Sábados a lo Niche.” Admission is free, and it’s open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This museum is a must-visit for salsa lovers and anyone interested in exploring the vibrant musical heritage of Cali.
